Be About the Father's Business

As a child Jesus was separated from His parents while in Jerusalem and the Bible says that they searched frantically for Him until they discovered Him in the Temple talking with a group of Jewish scribes and teachers of the Law.  According to the King James Version, Jesus responded by saying, “How is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”

Luke 2:49.  Even as a young child, Jesus recognized the importance of being about the Father’s business.  Jesus never allowed worldly things to interfere with doing His Father’s business.  He was, in fact, obedient to His Father even to the point of death.

You and I also need to be about our Heavenly Father’s business.  During the next six months there are some very important events coming up for our church and community.  I believe God wants us involved.  And while I cannot list them all, I would like to highlight some of them for your prayer and participation.

Reset 2016 / Together 2016 has the goal of seeing one million believers stand together for Jesus on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on July 16.  The purpose of this gathering is to pray for Revival in America.  A group of believers from Douglas are going and we will be leaving on July 14 and returning on July 17.

There will be a Community wide Prayer Event on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 8 A.M.  All churches are invited.  We will gather behind the Board of Education building near the walking track and gather into forty groups.  From there, these 40 groups will spread across Coffee County to PRAYER WALK STRATEGIC AREAS.  Our theme is, “Thy Kingdom Come.”  YOU CAN SIGN UP TODAY AT THE WELCOME DESK.

On Wednesday, July 27 through Friday, July 29, beginning nightly at 6 P.M., there will be a REFUEL event for our youth here at First Baptist Church.  REFUEL will culminate on Saturday evening with a concert by Jamie Grace at the Coffee Middle School Auditorium from 7 to 9 P.M.  Nathan Lingenfelter has ticket information.

On Saturday, July 30, 2016, from 10 AM-2PM, there will be a Back to School Event held at the Central Square Complex to provide shoes and other items for school children in need.  Our goal as a community is $20,000 for 2000 pairs of shoes.  For our part First Baptist Church is trying to raise $4,000 which will purchase 400 pairs of the needed shoes.  We will have a booth set up where we can share the Gospel and pray with those families who come that Saturday.

Candlelight Prayer Walk at the Coffee County Courthouse, August 8, 2016, at 8 PM.  Once again this year we will be reading Scripture, singing praises to God, and praying for our nation as we circle the Coffee County Courthouse.

Soul Winning Clinic and Evangelistic Services, August 14-17, 2016.  This year Evangelist Jeff Harvel will be coming to First Baptist Church for an evangelistic crusade.  To kick off this important event, a Soul Winning Clinic, will be led by Jeff on Saturday, August 13, here at First Baptist Church, after which we will go out into our community to share the Gospel.

The nation-wide “One Cry” Revival Conference will be coming to First Baptist Church, October 30 - November 2, 2016.

Finally, the County Wide Revival, sponsored by “Rend Our Hearts” will be held on  January 1-6, 2017 at Coffee Middle School Auditorium.

That’s not everything, but I’m out of space.  Let’s be about our Father’s business.
