Fasting is an exercise that helps followers of Jesus to deepen our relationship with Him. This habit provides an opportunity to focus our attention and perspective towards God. Fasting reminds us of our need for Him and assists believers as we seek to humble ourselves and draw closer to God. Types of Fasting Total Fast: Abstaining from all food and only drinking water. Partial Fast: Abstaining from certain foods or specific meals. Juice Fast: Abstaining from all food and only drinking fruit and vegetable juices. Daniel Fast: Partake only specific foods mentioned within the book of Daniel – fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes, nuts and seeds, oils, herbs, spices, seasonings, soy products, unleavened bread. Foods to avoid: meat, dairy, alcohol. Technology Fast: Abstain from digital devices, social media, streaming services and the internet for a specific amount of time. Personal Fast: Abstain from something you regularly enjoy or indulge in – a food, activity, habit, media, for a specific amount of time.
