God Gives Gifts to Build His Family

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1–11

Family Devotional

Have you ever received a gift that made you feel special? Maybe someone gave you something you really wanted, or someone gave you a gift because they knew exactly what you needed.

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul teaches us that God gives spiritual gifts to His people. These gifts are special ways the Holy Spirit works through us to help and encourage others.

Paul lists gifts such as wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Not everyone receives the same gift—and that's the point! God doesn't make everyone exactly alike.

Think about a team. A soccer team wouldn't work very well if everyone wanted to be the goalie. A band wouldn't sound very good if everyone played the same instrument. Each person has a different role, but everyone works together toward the same goal.

The same is true in God's family. God gives each of us something we can use to serve others. Our gifts aren't meant to make us more important than someone else. They're meant to help the whole family of God.

So when we gather at church, meet with our LifeGroup, talk with a friend, or spend time with our family, we can ask:

“Holy Spirit, how do You want to work through me today?”

Maybe you can encourage someone. Maybe you can help someone who is struggling. Maybe you can teach, serve, pray, listen, show kindness, or give someone wisdom. We don't always know exactly what God will do, but we can come ready for Him to work through us.

The Holy Spirit gives every believer something to share. God's family is stronger when we each use what He has given us.

Try This Together

This week, have each family member answer:
“One thing God has given me that I could use to help someone else is…”
Then choose one practical way to use that gift this week.

Pray Together

God, thank You for giving each of us different gifts and abilities. Thank You that we don't have to be the same to be part of Your family. Holy Spirit, show us how You want to work through us. Help us notice people who need encouragement, help, kindness, wisdom, or prayer. Give us courage to step out and serve. Use our gifts to help others know and experience Your love. Amen.
