Read It TogetherRead 1 Corinthians 13:1–13 together. If you have younger children, consider reading verses 4–7 slowly and letting them listen for all the things Paul says that love does.Talk About ItWhen we hear the word love, we often think about a feeling. We love our family, our friends, our favorite foods, our pets, or our favorite team. But Paul shows us that biblical love is much bigger than a feeling.Love is something we do.Paul says love is patient and kind. Love doesn't brag or put itself first. Love doesn't keep a list of everything someone has done wrong. Love celebrates what is good. Love keeps going even when loving someone is difficult.And when we look at that description, we see Jesus.Jesus was patient with people who didn't understand Him. He was kind to people others ignored. He served instead of demanding to be served. He forgave. He welcomed people. And ultimately, He gave His life because He loved us.Paul also reminds the Corinthians that God gives each believer different gifts and abilities. Those gifts are important, but they are not the most important thing. Our gifts are meant to help others, not make ourselves look important.We might be good at sports, music, art, school, leadership, encouraging people, fixing things, or making others laugh. Those abilities are gifts from God. The question is not simply, “What am I good at?” The better question is:“How can I use what God has given me to love and build up someone else?”Our talents won't last forever. One day, when Jesus returns, we won't need some of the gifts we have now. But love will never end.That's why Paul says, “Love never ends.”Every day we have opportunities to practice the kind of love Jesus shows us. Sometimes that means being patient when we're frustrated. Sometimes it means forgiving instead of keeping score. Sometimes it means letting someone else have the spotlight. And sometimes it simply means choosing kindness when we don't feel like it.We don't have to do this by ourselves.
