We Belong to Jesus—and Each Other

Family Devotional

October 25, 2026
Scripture: Ephesians 4:4–6; Ephesians 4:32; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; 1 Corinthians 15:42–44

Big Idea: The Holy Spirit makes us part of God's family. Because Jesus has forgiven us and conquered death, we can live in unity, forgive others, care for one another, and share the hope we have in Him.

1. Let's Talk About It

When we say the closing words of the Apostles' Creed, we're declaring some important truths about what it means to follow Jesus. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection of the body.

But what do these beliefs have to do with everyday life?

When we trust Jesus, God gives us His Holy Spirit to help us follow Him. We become part of a much bigger family—the church! This family includes believers around the world who belong to Jesus, even if they worship in different places or traditions.

God didn't design us to follow Jesus alone. He gave us one another to encourage us, help us grow, pray together, and remind us of God's truth. And because Jesus has forgiven us, we can learn to forgive one another, too.

We also have an amazing promise: death doesn't get the final word. Jesus rose from the dead, and everyone who belongs to Him has the hope of resurrection and life with God in His renewed creation.

These aren't just words we say. They're truths we're called to live out! We can welcome others into God's family, choose forgiveness when it's hard, invest in relationships, and share the hope of Jesus with the people around us.

2. Questions for Every Age

Preschoolers (Ages 2–5)
  • Who helps us follow Jesus?
  • Who are some people in God's family?
  • What can you do when someone hurts your feelings?
  • How can we show someone that we love them?

Elementary Kids (Ages 6–11)
  • What does the Holy Spirit help us do?
  • Why do you think God wants us to be part of a church family?
  • What does it look like to forgive someone? Is forgiveness always easy?
  • How can we help someone feel welcome in God's family?
  • What does Jesus' resurrection promise mean for us?

Teens (Ages 12+)
  • Why might someone believe in Jesus but still try to live out their faith alone?
  • How can you intentionally invest in relationships with other believers?
  • What makes forgiveness difficult, and how does remembering Christ's forgiveness change our response?
  • How should the hope of resurrection change the way we face suffering, loss, or uncertainty?
  • Are you helping build up the church, or are you mostly standing on the sidelines? What is one step you could take?

3. Let's Put It Into Practice

As a family, choose one way to live out what we believe this week:
  • Belong: Invite someone to join you at church or include someone who might feel left out.
  • Encourage: Pray for someone in your church family and let them know you're thinking of them.
  • Forgive: Take a step toward making things right with someone you've hurt or who has hurt you, when it is safe and appropriate.
  • Share hope: Remind someone who is hurting that Jesus has conquered death and promises eternal life to those who belong to Him.

Family challenge: What is one thing we can do together this week to help someone experience the love of God's family?

4. Closing Prayer

Dear God, thank You for giving us Your Holy Spirit and making us part of Your family. Help us love one another, build meaningful relationships, and forgive others as You have forgiven us. Give us courage to welcome people into our lives and share the hope we have because Jesus rose from the dead. Help us live out what we believe, not just say the words. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Remember this: We belong to Jesus, we belong to one another, and because Jesus is alive, we have a hope that will never die.
