Day 23 - Monday

The Journey - Lent 2024

By Aaron Austin | March 11, 2024
Bible Readings: Romans 8:14-25; Psalm 25:1-7

Show me your ways, Lord,
     teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Psalm 25:4-5

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Romans 8:14

When we pray, often what consumes our thoughts is what has just happened or what is about to happen.  We become aware of a need or a crisis… God help me/them.  Maybe we have a big test today or a job interview… God be with me today.  This is good for Jesus taught us to pray for our “daily bread”.  But sometimes it is easy to forget that a journey has a destination which gives meaning to each part of the journey.  The biblical writers often faced “enemies” (Psalm 25:2) or “present sufferings” (Romans 8:18) but, like children, knew they could always trust in God’s faithfulness to lead them by his “truth” towards a promised future.

In you, Lord my God,
     I put my trust.
Psalm 25:1

This was the lesson the Israelites needed to learn as they walked out of the sea and into the wilderness – will we trust God to lead us to the promised land?
Those who are new believers tend to see difficulties as a crisis of faith.  But the longer we walk with the Lord, the more we come to know and trust in his goodness and faithfulness.  So let us pray today:

Show me your ways, Lord,
     teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long
