Day 26 - Thursday

The Journey - Lent 2024

By Aaron Austin | March 14, 2024
Bible Readings: 2 Corinthians 5:14-21; Psalm 40:1-5

I waited patiently for the Lord;
     he turned to me and heard my cry.
 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
     out of the mud and mire;
 he set my feet on a rock
     and gave me a firm place to stand.
 He put a new song in my mouth,
     a hymn of praise to our God.
 Many will see and fear the Lord
     and put their trust in him.
Psalm 40:1-3

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  2 Corinthians 5:20-21

On any journey it is beneficial to keep a journal of each new experience.  Or at least a photo on your phone!  We want to be able to remember and share with others our experiences.  And sometimes we hear from those with whom we have shared our adventures with, “Oh I would love to do that someday!”

David retells his story, his journey, here in the first half of Psalm 40.  He retells how the Lord rescued him – Let me tell you what the Lord has done.  And he also knows that his testimony will be a public witness to the Lord so “Many will see…and put their trust in him.” (Psalm 40:3)

Our story with God is one that we need to remember and share.  It is through knowing our own redemption story and living it out faithfully before others that we become “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20).  Take some time today to reflect upon what the Lord has done in your life – journal it in a book or in your heart.  You can use David’s own testimony to inspire your own remembrances:

  • He heard me when...
  • He lifted me out…
  • He gave me a firm place to stand when…
  • He put a new song in my mouth which declares…

May the Lord bless you as you reflect upon his goodness in your own life!
