CONNECTIONS Issue 17, Volume 4April 13, 2025STOUT MEMORIAL UMC WE EXIST TO SEE ALL PEOPLE FIND HOPE, HEALING AND WHOLENESS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.Why Holy Week? How does a group of people begin by praising Jesus and welcoming him to Jerusalem to be the same ones who yell “crucify him” “crucify him”?The Jesus they welcomed wasn’t the Jesus the chief priests and scribes wanted. They had to devise a way to get rid of him. And they were successful! Within 24 hours of arrest by the temple guards, he was dead on the cross.Jesus was tortured, whipped front and back, so weakened that he could not carry his own arm cross beam which weighed close to 100 pounds. He was spit upon, nailed and naked on the cross. And yet, even there, he spoke of forgiveness. He showed love for his mother as he made plans for her to be cared for. He recalled scripture for strength to endure. And at last said, “It is finished!”And it all began with dancing palms! Flowering of the CrossYou are encouraged to bring in a flower over the next few weeks to add to the cross. Let’s watch it come alive with color as we reach Easter!
